Dice Game Lesson 2021

 I always hear the word "lucky" or "swerte" in the Fil-Chi community. Yesterday my son had many good throws, ang na-picturean ko lang yung 6x6 and 1-2-3-4-5-6. Was it swerte? Maybe..or not?!?

I realized that like this game, there are many things in life beyond our control. Can be frustrating and exhausting, really. Just keep "throwing the dice" until "this game" is over. That isn't always how we win, but that's always how we should play.

We won't always win... but we also wouldn't get a chance at winning if we don't keep playing.

2020 has been such a whack of a year, I admit that. Despite the things that we "lost", I decided to make up for it by gaining something out of new things to learn and adapt to in the new normal.

One of them is the decision to just go and jump right into podcasting. It's one of those things where I just feel pulled into. You know how it goes when you like or even instinctively like something - you don't even have to be sold. Hehe... 

So while I'm still learning the ropes in building a full end-to-end digital place for my professional brand, I'm parking everything here in my mommy space :)

Chicken - Shiitake Mushroom Lugaw in the Instant Pot

How do you like your lugaw? When I was younger, I only loved one kind and that was the one that we would find in the wet market of Marketplace in Kalentong, Mandaluyong. It was soo rich and savory and was honestly a comfort to my tummy that was woken too early by my mom.

However, a close favorite would be the one that my husband's Amah makes from time to time. This is NOT her actual recipe. I just made tantya-tantya to recreate her chicken-mushroom lugaw.

Also, with 2 kids and no helper time is definitely of the essence. Yeah, siya talaga ang essential <3 So whenever I can, I make sure to always make use of gadgets that can help me. For this recipe, the Instant Pot was such a hit! Just 20 minutes to pressure cook. Of course, you also need to factor in the few minutes it would take to bring it to pressure.

If you have the IP, rice, chicken, ginger, mushroom (maybe?), I highly suggest this one. Tastes different and almost going to the rissotto route charr! Btw, we always keep a bag of dried shiitake mushrooms and just rehydrate it as needed. It lasts 2 years the whole bag.

Just a note, I absolutely adore mushrooms, black pepper, and ginger hence I really love this one! For some though, shiitake mushrooms might be an acquired taste so better check with your fellow home buddies.

Pluviophile Mommy

It's raining again!! :) Sometime during the lockdown I posted an FB story that little drizzles are actually my favorite. It surprised me that I also have some friends who share the same love for rain. :)

Call me sentimental - grey skies, tip-tapping, rain boots and a jacket....oooh, I just love haha <3

While many adore the sun, I, on the other hand, feel so recharged when it's raining (of course, not the ultra-stormy kind). It makes me feel more at peace and productive as well. Thought it was weird at first...but there was actually a study that shows Why Bad Weather Means Good Productivity. I loved it so much I use it often with my students back when I was still in University.

Definitely brings me back to my grade school days. I'd be ready in my uniform, only to see the school bus make a U-turn because classes are cancelled. Then I'd go on pretending that I'm in some sort of a boarding school, tidy up my bed and read a book. Such happy times!

When I was in the corporate world, I would ACTIVELY seek out protective gear too! I got Pluey's rain boots in a houndstooth design...if it wasn't too expensive I might have imported Hunter boots as well (and go on imagining stomping on mud in Glastonbury Festival). And the only reason I got caught out during Ondoy? Yup, my kikay self making a mad dash for a rain jacket in the mall. Lol!

I guess now that we've experienced this pandemic in our lifetime, we can safely say that life doesn't serve us just light drizzles. 

• Sometimes it can be a super-bagyo level where we won't ever feel sentimental, recharged, or even productive. 
• Sometimes it will be too muddy to even lift a foot up and move forward. 

So what do we do? We take it one step at a time. Whether you need just an umbrella or a trench coat with boots too, the important thing is to take that crucial first step. 

Through drizzles or stormier weather, here for you :)

Watami Japanese Casual Restaurant - my kinda ramen!

When they say "food is life", they're not wrong, you know! ;p

I love the advocacy, I love the people I work with and to complete the triumvirate...I also absolutely love our office at Ayala North Exchange (ANEX) a.k.a. the former parking lot of Makati Medical Center :D

WHY WHY WHY??? Just visit and you'll be super amazed with the choice retailers / food concessionaires in the building. We've got staples such as Starbucks, Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, milk teas, Bread Talk, Potato Corner, Banapple, Mama Lou's, Floating Island, Botejyu, Denny's, Chicken Peri-Peri, Italliani's and the one that has captured my heart este my tummy - Watami Japanese Casual Dining! Wooosaaah!!

I've been to Watami a couple of times already and do you know what sealed the deal for me? It's their SPICY MISO RAMEN. I can eat it all week! No kidding!! 

Who knew that their perfect combination of long-simmered broth, peanut butter and toban djan (chili bean paste) could hit the right spot in my gut?!?

I'm not a ramen connoisseur but this is definitely my type! Hahaha :)

Of course, let's not forget about their super soft chasu pork and soft boiled egg. Waah!! I was in heaven for the half hour that I was delighting in my precious ramen :D 

The price at PHP 395 --> it's not pang petsa-de-peligro fare but personally I will say that the price is reasonable.

Will I go back? Most definitely! It's spicy but not the in-your-face type wherein you won't be able to feel your mouth for a long time :) 

Any other ramen recommendations from you guys?

P.S. Here was my ramen 'date'. I'm a BIG bag kind of gal. So when I need to run errands far away, I feel the need to lug everything with me LOL! Perhaps for another post I can share the why's and why not's of this choice. So far this TNF bag has been serving me well :)

Maybe I'll also share my personal challenge of just sticking to a right-sized bag (for me) and what I put in it. ;)
